Driving an actual race car had long been a goal of mine. Sure, I’d spent a day or so behind the wheel of small Formula Ford-style cars at the Bridgestone Racing School and taken a BMW Winter Driving course. But I’d never had the chance to drive a true purpose-built race car on a track like Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca, an iconic locale if ever there was one. In Spring 2016, I finally got the chance. I spent two days in Monterey, Calif. at Allen Berg Racing School trying to drive like a real racer. And, as I found out, it truly is harder than it looks.
